Notebook v2.1
REVIEWED BY JIM WORACHEK -- 01/2007
What do you do when you have a thought that you want to come back
to? What do you do when you hear something you want to check out later?
Jot it down on a napkin? On a Post-It note? Do you type it into a word
processor and hope to find it later? Or do you trust yourself to
remember it?
Most of us do none of these. We forget the thought-at least until the
next time we want to remember it. Then it all starts over.
NoteBook by Circus Ponies is an application which is an answer to this
problem. It can turn your snippets of information into a searchable
catalogue. It goes far beyond keeping track of random thoughts and
facts. It outlines and organizes your ideas. Looking like a real
notebook on your screen, NoteBook is a repository for many kinds of
data: written notes, voice annotation, photos, graphics, and more.
With powerful search features, NoteBook can easily retrieve your data.
NoteBook integrates with Apple's Address Book, iCal, iPod, iTunes,
iChat, Mail, Safari, and .Mac. It can publish to the Web in one step.
Installation is straightforward and quick. I started using NoteBook
without looking at the manual. But it's most powerful features require
a few glances at the built-in help documentation, the FAQs on the web
site, or user bulletin boards. Once you get used to the interface,
you will find there is always more power to tap. I did not use all of
the features, but those that I did worked flawlessly.
One of the marks of good software is that it molds itself to the user.
That is one of NoteBook's strengths. It is customizable to a great
degree. Everyone will use NoteBook differently. Everyone will use a
difference combination of features. And no one will be disappointed.
I recommend NoteBook to anyone interested in keeping better track of
data on their Mac.
