Toast Titanium 7 by Roxio
REVIEWED BY JEFFREY GAIER -- 10/28/2005
Once again Toast proves that it is the best software out on the market for
burning CDs and DVDs with the latest installment of version 7.
Let's start with the negative first before we get into the good stuff.
1. Like any program, there ccomes a time when it is time to move on. With that
being said, there are the system requirements.
2. I think this is more os a problem with my machine, but I have experienced a
few times a problem shutting down the program. On a few occasions I have had to force quit.
3. Toast will not burn iTunes songs that you purchased at the iTunes music store. You
will have to burn those files directly from iTunes.
The reason I was a little disappointed with the system requirements was that I use
several fruity G3 iMacs that will not be able to utilize this new great version of Toast.
Okay enough of the bad, now on with the drool worthy.
There are many great new features in Toast so I'll do my best to hit what
I think are the important areas... Okay GREAT areas.
1. iLife integration
Toast seamlessly can draw from your iLife libraries to access files for you
to burn. It is a great way for you back up your important images, audio files and
movies. From the pulldown menu you can select the files you want, and simply drag
them into the center to be burned to your CD or DVD.
2. Custom CD/DVD icons and backgrounds
If you have collected icons and you enjoy changing your folders from
time to time, you may like this new feature. You now have the ability to copy and paste
that icon into Toast so that your CD or DVD will forever have that icon when you insert
it into your computer. You can also select custom backgrounds. When you open up any
folder you usually see a blank background. Now you can choose a color of your choice
for the background. If you don't like a color, you can choose a image in your
background. These are some fun features if you like playing around or hacking
your disks/folders.
3. DivX movies
If you happen to download movies (not that I'm endorsing illegally
downloading those cool episodes of the Bionic Man and Woman), you can use
Toast 7 to create the recordings into viewable DVDs. Now you can drop those
DVDs into the DVD player by tv and sack-out on the couch. No more computer
only movies for this classic TV show junkie. Toast is also the only
burning software to offer HD DivX. That is really handy if you happen
to be a Final Cut HD user.
4. Slideshows
Come on, I know you have lots of images. Isn't it time to back them up.
Do something even more worthy of them. Create a slideshow DVD or CD to show
them off. You can use the features in Toast to create custom intros and
menus for your slideshows.
5. CD Spin Doctor
Toast once again comes with the great software CD Spin Doctor that you
can use to convert your olf LPs or cassettes too. If you are into Podcasting,
it can even be used as an alternative recorder for recording your voice.
You can send recorded tracks directly to iTunes.
6. Can you stay electronic Download
I love software that you can download and use in a matter of minutes. Of
course the size of the program has to be reasonable and your modem download
speed high.
7. Audio DVDs
Copy your favorite songs to DVD to take to a friends party and play. Let's
face it in a perfect world, everyone would own an iPod, but then again the
world isn't perfect, so thankfully Toast allows us to make it a little better.
Life is full of music. Play it loud and often so that we can all be deaf when
our grandkids play something worse.
There are many more great features to this program. The best of course are
the traditional.
In a nutshell, Toast has proven that there is more to CD and DVD burning.
It is well worth the investment if you burn lots of disks like I do. You can
download Toast directly from Roxio.com
or you can talk to Rick or Dick at
Simply-Mac about ordering a copy of Toast 7.
